Netanyahu cancels trip due to polls

NEW DELHI: For the second time this year, Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu has cancelled a planned visit to India. "A short time ago, the Prime Minister spoke with India's Prime Minister," said an official statement issued by Netanyahu's office on Tuesday. "The two agreed that due to scheduling constraints - the (Israeli) Prime Minister's visit will take place after the (Israeli) election (due on September 17)."
For the past few weeks, Netanyahu has battled political challenges and in recent days tensions have flared up with Iran and its front organisation Hezbollah.
Netanyahu and Modi share a deep personal bond, so it is likely the visit will be rescheduled to a convenient time. Given the close ties between the two countries, such cancellations are not seen as diplomatic problems, which could have been speculated for any other country.
