More autonomy demand likely to top agenda of IIT council meet
The council meeting hosted at IIT-Delhi will take up around 30 agenda items. A proposal for a three-year exit scheme for weaker students floated by one IIT may also come up for discussion in the meeting. The ministry of human resource development had constituted a seven-member committee in October 2018 after a number of IITs sought autonomy in line with that of the IIMs.
The panel in its report submitted to the ministry suggested restructuring of the IIT board of governors by expanding it to 14 members from the current strength of nine and by including four distinguished alumni. It also suggested vesting the power of appointing the chairpersons and the directors of the IITs on the BoG
