Indian on hunger strike freed in US
El PASO: An Indian immigrant who lost a third of his weight during a 70-day hunger strike over the rejection of his asylum claim won temporary release on Thursday after a year in US detention. Ajay Kumar, 33, walked away from a detainee processing centre in Texas, with a tracking device around his ankle — a condition for his release.
Kumar told immigration officials “he fled India because he feared being attacked by BJP members for his work promoting INLD party”. Immigration and Customs Enforcement declined to comment.
