Govt sops for companies to boost SC/ST hiring?

NEW DELHI: The labour ministry may give incentives to both government and private companies for recruiting more SC and ST candidates and it's believed to have discussed the proposal with some industry bodies.
"We keep discussing on various proposals for affirmative action to give benefit to workers," Union labour minister Santosh Gangwar told reporters on Thursday on the sidelines of a Ficci conference. He was responding to a question whether his ministry is considering any proposal to encourage recruitment of SC & ST candidates under affirmative action.
The minister further added, "We can tell you exactly about the contours of the proposal after seeking details about it. We receive many suggestions during discussions with stakeholders."
According to news agency, PTI, industry bodies have voluntarily committed to ensure equal opportunities for members of SC and ST communities through 'affirmative action'. The concept was formally adopted by industry bodies like CII and Assocham.
