Bar netas from promising loan sops: BMS to EC

NEW DELHI: A bankers’ association affiliated to RSS-backed Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) has urged the Election Commission to issue an advisory to all candidates in the forthcoming assembly polls and all future polls to refrain from making loan waiver promises.
“During election campaign, leaders frequently make loose statements that if their party comes to power, then farmers’ loans will be waived. These statements not only mislead farmers but cause major damage to the banking sector as well as economy.
It has been seen that even those farmers who have ample capacity to repay the loan do not pay in anticipation of loan waiver commitment by political leaders,” Delhi Pradesh Bank Workers Organisation wrote to chief election commissioner Sunil Arora.
