BJP leader Anil Dutta told TOI, “We had taken out a victory procession in our locality to celebrate our candidate’s poll victory. Sushil Mondal (52), the deceased, was hoisting the BJP flag at Pandu in Ketugram (I) block when Trinamool Congress workers Lakhan Mondal, Jagganath Ghosh and Rajkumar Ghosh reached the spot and told him, ‘You think you’ve become a big leader. We will finish you today.’ Rajkumar and Jagganath then mercilessly stabbed Sushil.” He was taken to a health centre where he died around 1pm.
“We demand stringent punishment for the three Trinamool Congress men. Sushil’s wife Aparna Mondal tried to lodge a written complaint at Ketugram police station. But the policemen allegedly refused to accept it,” Dutta said. When contacted, Trinamool Congress leader Swapan Debnath said, “I will not comment on this matter. The incident took place in our party leader Anubrata Mondal’s area.” However, East Burdwan SP Bhaskar Mukherjee said, “Rajkumar’s goats were grazing on Sushil’s field. Finding his crops damaged, Sushil protested. A heated exchange between Sushil and Rajkumar took place after which he was stabbed.”
