ED changes IO in Agusta case for letting Ratul Puri give the slip

NEW DELHI: In the high-profile AgustaWestland bribery and money laundering case, the Enforcement Directorate has removed its investigating officer after serving him a showcause notice for alleged lapses while questioning Ratul Puri, nephew of Madhya Pradesh CM Kamal Nath.
Puri, who is currently in ED custody, had slipped out during a questioning session at the ED office in Delhi and had evaded arrest for some time before the court rejected his anticipatory bail application. The incident took place in the last week of July, and the very next day, Puri moved a Delhi court seeking bail.
Puri is also an accused in a bank fraud case of Rs 5,000 crore involving his business enterprise Moser Baer. The ED is probing both the cases under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.
The agency has appointed a new investigating officer in the case.
Puri is allegedly an important link to unearth the actual beneficiaries of the alleged payoffs received in the Rs 3,600 crore VVIP chopper deal in which several senior Congress politicians are under the radar
