Wipro gives Rs 1 lakh bonus to junior employees

BENGALURU: Wipro has given bonuses of Rs 1 lakh each to junior employees, those with experience of about three years and who started at the company, to stem lower level attrition. This is an unique reward model adopted by the company in many years. “It is a retention bonus and it has a one year lock-in,” Saurabh Govil, president and chief of human resources, said.
Govil said employees up to 3-4 years of experience have been given hikes of 10% or more, and those with digital skills have been given high single digits to double digit increases. Low performers haven’t got hikes, he said. Govil said senior employees, those in the levels of delivery manager and those in leadership levels, have got hikes of 4-5% .
The company hired 6,000 freshers in the June quarter, as many as in the whole of the previous fiscal. It's a reflection of the deal pipeline, the company said.
Quarterly annualised attrition marginally went up to 17.9% in the June quarter due to employees leaving the firm for higher studies, wage hikes and actions related to layoffs.
