J&K: Officer behind ‘panic’ letter shunted out

NEW DELHI: Railways on Monday transferred the assistant security commissioner (ASC) of RPF who had issued a letter asking employees to take precautionary measures due to a likely "emergency situation" in Jammu & Kashmir. His letter had become a big political issue and the Railways had to issue a clarification on Sunday evening.
"The officer concerned had no authority to issue any such letter. How can anyone write such a letter based on his own understanding? Even the GRP has given in writing that it did not flag any such issue which the officer referred to," RPF DG Arun Kumar said. Sources said an IG rank officer has reached Budgam in J&K to look into the entire matter and he is likely to submit the report soon.
