Bill to protect consumers gets Lok Sabha nod

NEW DELHI: The Lok Sabha on Tuesday passed the consumer protection bill which provides for setting up of district, state and central level dispute resolution authorities and makes it compulsory to register a case within 21 days. It provides for stringent action against misleading advertisements and punitive actions against celebrities endorsing them.
Food and consumer affairs minister Ram Vilas Paswan said the bill empowers consumer to also file class action suits on behalf of absentee parties.
