SC junks petition against ILP

NEW DELHI: The SC on Tuesday dismissed a PIL which sought doing away with the Inner-Line Permit system, in vogue in some border states, claiming that it impeded the constitutionally guaranteed freedom to citizens to move freely across India. A bench headed by CJ Ranjan Gogoi dismissed the plea by advocate Ashwni Upadhyay saying, “You do not know the ground reality in these states.
Let the Inner-Line Permit system stay.” Upadhyay then attempted to give a communal colour to it by arguing that movement of people belonging to Hindu community in Nagaland is being restricted through the ILP system. The bench warned him not to bring in religion into the issue.
