Gujarat lawyers move SC for Justice Kureshi

NEW DELHI: The Gujarat High Court Advocates Association moved the Supreme Court on Wednesday seeking a direction to the Centre to implement the SC collegium’s recommendation to appoint Bombay HC’s Justice Akil Kureshi as chief justice of Madhya Pradesh HC.
The association said Kureshi was appointed as a judge of Gujarat HC in 2004 and was functioning as acting chief justice of HC when he was transferred to Bombay HC in November last year. The SC collegium headed by Justice Ranjan Gogoi had recommended to government on May 10 to appoint Justice Kureshi as CJ of MP HC.
There were other names recommended by the collegium for appointment as CJs of other HCs. But the government has not yet implemented the collegium’s recommendation for appointment of CJs for HCs of MP and Andhra Pradesh.
