Meanwhile in the mixed-doubles event, Sathyan paired up with Kamath to beat Cyprus' Louiza Kourea and Marios Yiangou 11-6, 11-5, 11-4 to enter the last-eight stage.
The men's and women's singles qualifiers threw up a few surprises.
Under lights at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium, India's Krittwika Sinha Roy started on a tentative footing in the women's singles qualifier as she lost her first two games. However, the 2019 senior national runner-up stormed back to down Nigeria's Edem Offiong 3-11, 8-11, 11-6, 11-6, 11-6. Placed in Group I, Roy later eased past Sri Lanka's Bimandi Bandara 8-11,12-10,11-3,11-7 to enter the main draw.
