Attorney general cites ‘irregularities’ at jail where Jeffrey Epstein died
“Any co-conspirators should not rest easy,” Barr said. Epstein was found dead on Saturday in his cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center (MCC). Barr had said on Saturday that he had asked the US justice department’s inspector general to investigate Epstein’s death.
Barr said the criminal case against Epstein was important to him and that the financier’s death denied his victims the chance to confront Epstein in a courtroom. “I angry to learn of the MCC’s failure to adequately secure this prisoner,” he said. “We are now learning of serious irregularities at this facility that are deeply concerning and demand a thorough investigation.” Barr didn’t say what those irregularities were.
