ISSF World Cup: India's Elavenil Valarivan wins 10m Air Rifle gold in Rio de Janeiro

NEW DELHI: India's shooting[1] sensation Elavenil Valarivan[2] produced a stupendous show to win a gold medal in the women's 10m air rifle event at the ISSF World Cup[3] in Rio de Janiero on Wednesday.

This was Elavenil's first World Cup medal in the senior category. She had won gold medal in junior World Cup in Sydney in 2018.

Elavenil, who has learnt the art of shooting from legend Gagan Narang[5], shot a score of 251.7 in the final to claim the top honours.
The youngster finished ahead of Great Britain's Seonaid McIntosh (250.6) and Chinese Taipei's Lin Ying-Shin (229.9), who won silver and bronze respectively.
Elavenil, who scored 629.4 and 629.1 respectively in the qualification round, is the third Indian to win gold in this event at a World Cup after Anjali Bhagwat[6] and Apurvi Chandela[7].
Bhagwat won gold in 2003 in Fort Benning, while Chandela won two gold medals at the New Delhi and Munich World Cups earlier this year.
