Indian women spend as much time as men on online games: Survey
Apart from the daily gamers, more than 26% of the respondents said that they play these games on a weekly basis. The survey also noted that residents in eastern India were most likely to keep playing these games (76%), unlike those from western India (45%). A majority of active gamers spend fewer than three hours a week on these games (52%), and nearly a third (30%) devote between 3 to 5 hours a week to them.
Significantly, women spent as much time on online real money games as men. The percentage of women (55%) who spend less than 3 hours a week on these games is higher than men (50%), as it is for those who spend between five to seven hours a week (9% vs 7%). The number of men (31%) and women (29%) is also nearly the same for people who invest between 3 to 5 hours weekly on online games. In fact, at 64%, the figures for women in tier-3 cities spending up to 3 hours a week on online games was higher than women in tier-1 and tier-2 cities, which were at 52% and 54% respectively.
The study also reveals that women are also investing money on these games, though on an average, these are smaller amounts as compared to men. For instance, nearly 49% of women spend less than Rs 100 on online games as compared to 34% men. However, more men (35%) invested between Rs 101 to Rs 1,000 as compared to women (27%). This was also found to be the case for amounts higher than Rs 1001.
Residents of tier-2 and tier-2 cities also tended to place higher bets than those in tier-3 cities. For instance, nearly 52% of people in tier-3 cities spent less than Rs 100 every month on these games. In comparison, nearly 47% and 46% of respondents from tier-1 and tier-2 cities respectively said they were investing between Rs 101-2,500 on these games.
