Khattar-led BJP-JJP govt set to be sworn today

CHANDIGARH: Manohar Lal Khattar is all set to be sworn in as Haryana chief minister on Diwali for the second time in a row. He was

here on Saturday.
Dushyant Chautala, who was also elected Jannayak Janata Party’s (JJP’s) leader in the assembly the same day, will take oath as his deputy, Khattar told reporters after the BJPLP meeting.
Initially, BJP had planned to have two deputy CMs, one each from JJP and the saffron party, but this proposal was shot down by Union minister Ravi Shankar Parsad, who attended the BJPLP meeting as central observer along with party general secretary Arun Singh. BJP’s Haryana in-charge Anil Jain was also present in the meeting held at the UT guest house here.
BJP has 40 MLAs and JJP has 10 in the 90-member Haryana Assembly. Seven Independent legislators, including five BJP rebels, too have announced their support for the saffron party.
Besides the CM and the deputy CM, five ministers — Anil Vij, Banwari Lal (both ministers in the outgoing cabinet), independent MLA Ranjit Chautala and two legislators from JJP — are also expected to take the oath of office on Sunday.
“We are hopeful of giving the best government under his (Khattar’s) leadership,’’ said Prasad after the BJPLP meeting.
Soon afterwards, Khattar, Parsad, Arun Singh and Anil Jain met the seven Independent MLAs. Even as this meeting was on, a JJP messenger came in with the letter of support from party MLAs, followed by Dushyant.
After a brief meeting, both Khattar and Dushyant left the UT guest house and walked to the Haryana Raj Bhawan to meet the governor to stake claim to form the government.
While Khattar declared that Dushyant would be the deputy CM, he avoided queries related to the number of cabinet ministers, who would be sworn in, as well as the share of Independents and JJP in the ministry.
During his brief interaction with media, Dushyant said, “We are coalition partners and have agreed upon a common minimum program.”
