Kolkata schoolgirl left chilling note describing final moments
Respecting her last wishes, her family, relatives and friends on Saturday gave the teenager the send-off she wished for. A few family members and very close friends of the family accompanied the girl’s distraught father to the crematorium at Kirtankhola in Baruipur, on the southern fringe of the city, at 3.30pm.
Earlier in the afternoon, the girl’s body was handed over to the family at SSKM Hospital after the post-mortem. The preliminary report confirmed that her injuries were ante mortem (before death) in nature and that death may have been caused by lack of oxygen.
“She had wrapped her face in a polythene bag and tucked the edges into her shirt, possibly to suffocate herself. There were multiple slash injuries on her wrist, but those were unsure cuts and non-lethal in nature,” a police officer said.
But what shook even the most hardened of police officers was her three-page suicide note, in which she graphically describes the suffering that led her to kill herself.
She writes about the pain she experienced as blood dripped from her wrists and how her breathing was becoming laboured for want of oxygen. The police believe she wrote this page in the washroom. The first two pages were written with a steadier hand.
In the first two pages, written in lucid English, the girl describes how she had spent nights waiting for elusive sleep. She also mentions having a death wish since she was in Class I.
Back at her school, teachers spent a tense day with the investigating authorities recording their statements.
Experts are also trying to analyse the suicide note to find out what prompted her to opt for such a violent way to die.
