Raze Naidu-built 'illegal' conference hall, orders Jagan

VIJAYAWADA: The demolition of Praja Vedika, the conference hall built by the previous government led by N Chandrababu Naidu, adjacent to his own palatial bungalow on the banks of river Krishna, will begin on Tuesday.
Newly-elected Andhra Pradesh CM Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, addressing his first collectors' conference at the same venue, announced on Monday that the structure was completely illegal and in violation of all existing laws, including river conservation laws.
"The structure was constructed in clear violation of all laws. There is no permission for this structure. An executive engineer of the irrigation department had declined to give permission to the structure. Still, the previous government constructed this, right on the banks of the river. All rules were violated, including awarding tenders. It was initially estimated to cost Rs 5 crore. But once the work started, the price was escalated to Rs 8.9 crore," the CM said .
"The irony is that the CM of a state and all officials are holding their meeting today in this illegal building. What message are we giving to the people? Are we allowing a common man to construct a small house against all rules? Are we not demolishing them?" Jagan asked officials.
Reiterating his commitment to provide graft-free government, the CM said the process should start from Praja Vedika. "The change begins here, right from this structure. The dismantling of this unauthorised building would start just after we complete this conference.
