Patwardhan's docu runs into I&B hurdle

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala State Chalachithra Academy will move HC against the I&B ministry's denial of censor exemption to Anand Patwardhan's documentary 'Vivek' (Reason), which was scheduled to be screened at its ongoing International Documentary and Short Film Festival of Kerala (IDSFFK).
The 236-minute documentary, which has won awards at global festivals, was included in the long documentary (competition) section along with 11 other films in the 12th edition of IDSFFK. It talks about the murders of rationalist scholars like Narendra Dabholkar and Govind Pansare, the rise of ultra-nationalism in the country, oppression of Dalits and Muslims, caste-based discrimination and the suicide of Rohith Vemula, among other things.
There is yet to be an official screening in India. The festival organisers have rescheduled the film's screening to the last day of festival (Wednesday) in anticipation of a positive response from court.
