Two more INLD MLAs join BJP

CHANDIGARH: In yet another setback for the already-beleaguered Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), two more of its MLAs — Zakir Hussain and Parminder Dhull — joined BJP on Tuesday. With this, the number of INLD MLAs switching over to BJP has reached five and INLD is left with less than half of its original strength in the assembly.
Hussain is a three-time MLA from Mewat. Dhull, who represents Julana, holds influence in Jind district.
The two MLAs joined the party in the presence of Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar and formally took party’s membership from Haryana BJP president Subhash Barala.
Welcoming them, Khattar said their entry would strengthen the party in the state, especially in the Mewat area. BJP did not secure a lead in Mewat during the recent Lok Sabha elections.
Before joining BJP, the duo submitted their resignations as INLD MLAs. With their resignation, INLD has been reduced to effective strength of just seven in the House of 90 members. BJP sources claim that two more MLAs are in touch with them.
In 2014, 19 INLD MLAs had made it to the assembly. INLD also had support of one MLA from SAD. Two of its MLAs, Hari Chand Midha and Jaswinder Singh Sandhu, have passed away.
Following the feud within the Chautala family, four MLAs, including Naina Chautala, had joined Jannanyak Janta Party (JJP). This brought down the number of MLAs of INLD to 13.
