Mumbai Indians now look the team to beat: Krishnamachari Srikkanth

NEW DELHI: Former Indian opener Krishnamachari Srikkanth is looking forward to the IPL double header on Sunday with matches between Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore and the second match of the day between Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders.

In his column for the Times of India, Srikkanth wrote, "This Sunday could well be the most important day in the IPL. Bangalore, with nothing to lose, look a charged unit and have played a completely different brand of cricket in their last five games. To me they look more dangerous than some of the other sides. The primary reason for RCB's resurgence is their attack getting more consistent. The final leg of the tournament has always seen the team with the best spinners come up trumps. This edition could be no different. With the wickets getting a tad slower, it might not be a high scoring game after all."

IPL SCHEDULE[3] | IPL POINTS TABLE[4]

Delhi are at the third spot in the points table with 14 points from 11 games and need just two more points from three games to qualify for the playoffs.
"The toss is going to be extremely vital. The teams chasing have had a bigger rate of success mainly because finding a par score has been a lot tricky. In order to set a higher target, teams end up losing wickets in a heap and generally end up 15-20 runs short. A win for Delhi will mean a tight race for the 1-2 spot. I still feel Chennai Super Kings will take the top spot and it will come down to Mumbai or Delhi claiming the second," Srikkanth added.
Mumbai have an eight-match winning streak in a 18-5 head-to-head record against Kolkata. The last time Kolkata had won against Mumbai was four years ago.
"Mumbai, seem to be ticking all the boxes. I have spoken enough about finding a good team combination and the former champions have understood that part well. Individual brilliance can win a game or two, but for a campaign to be successful, you need a team. With Rohit Sharma also finding form at the right moment, they look like the team to beat. The Indian opener has always relished batting at the Eden Gardens and would love to continue that. It goes without saying that this will be KKR's last chance at redemption. If they can handle the clutch situations better, they still have a fighting chance," Srikkanth signed off.
