S Jaishankar keeps up ‘online help’ tradition

NEW DELHI: Union minister for external affairs S Jaishankar sent out his first tweet on Saturday, saying he is “proud to follow on the footsteps of Sushma Swaraj”. His predecessor was known for her prompt social media outreach to citizens in distress. Soon, he walked the talk.
“My first tweet. Thank you all for the best wishes! Honoured to be given this responsibility. Proud to follow on the footsteps of @SushmaSwaraj ji,” he tweeted. Soon after, a man claiming to be from Kolkata reached out to him asking for help in getting out of Saudi Arabia. His plea was acknowledged by Riyadh embassy. Jaishankar acknowledged the man’s video and the embassy’s response, tweeting, “Appreciate the prompt action on this Suhel @IndEmbRiyadh. Pl keep me apprised.”
