Karan Oberoi case: Woman’s lawyer on the run

MUMBAI: Oshiwara police probing the attack on a woman astrologer who has accused actor Karan Oberoi of rape have added the charge of criminal conspiracy to the FIR three days after their probe revealed it happened allegedly at the behest of her lawyer Ali Kaashif Khan.
An officer said cops visited Khan’s home in Millat Nagar, Andheri (W) on Sunday, but he and his family had gone into hiding and his mobile was switched off. Police sources said they are looking for Khan, and once arrested, “he will be booked for criminal conspiracy”.
Khan’s name cropped up after police arrested four youths, one of them his relative, for the attack on the woman, asking her to “take back the case”. The relative allegedly told police Khan had hired them. The four, who also threatened to attack her with acid, were released on bail on Friday. A police source said, “We have got the details of the four and their families. The case will not be hampered.”
Oberoi’s lawyer Dinesh Tiwari was disappointed at “the slow pace of police in finding the lawyer” in the “staged case” and hoped they would carry out a “good forensic probe”. “They should have invoked criminal conspiracy earlier. Now, it is important they seek to record the accused’s statement about the allegations against her advocate,” Tiwari said.
