Fresh jolt: MLA, 12 councillors quit TMC for BJP
Singh's switchover is the third instance of desertion from the Trinamool camp after the Lok Sabha polls.
Sunil, who is also the chairperson of Garulia municipality, took the BJP flag in the presence of the party's national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya and state leader Mukul Roy. Sunil had 12 TMC councillors of the 21-member civic body with him. BJP now has a majority in Bhatpara, Kancharapara, Naihati, Halisahar and Garulia municipalities where Trinamool had an unchallenged sway.
With Sunil joining BJP, entire Barrackpore constituency has now come under the watch of its MP, Arjun Singh.
